AHS Alumnus Receives Distinguished Service Award
Dale Flach, (third from left), who completed his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1959, was honored during campus commencement exercises with the University of Illinois Distinguished Service Award. He is the former assistant dean for student and alumni affairs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, and former acting director of its Illinois Rural Medical Education Program. Mr. Flach also earned a master’s degree in Education Administration at Illinois.
He was recognized for his innovation and advocacy of the living-in-residence concept in University Housing at the Urbana-Champaign campus and for his development of a program to recruit medical school applicants from rural areas who would later serve as primary care doctors in underserved communities.
The University of Illinois Distinguished Service Award was established in 1972 to honor extraordinary commitment, dedication, and service to the advancement of the University of Illinois.
