Students Learn from Pros at Sapora Institute
About 150 students from across the College of Applied Health Sciences learned about career options in the leisure industry during the 10th annual Sapora Institute, sponsored by the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism. The event is named for Allen Sapora, who was instrumental in establishing the Department of Leisure Studies at the University of Illinois, and later served as head of the department. During the event, students heard from people involved in such areas as sports broadcasting, arts center management, recreation programming and management, sports marketing, and hotel sales. They also had the opportunity to have their resumes critiqued and receive interview tips from professionals representing the wide spectrum of employment opportunities within the recreation, sport, and tourism management industry.
